Reclaimed Wood Tables – From The Barn To The Kitchen
The width and length of any given rustic table made from reclaimed wood depends on the individual characteristics of the lumber being used to build it. We encourage clients to make allowance for the lumber itself to have a say in the size and shape where possible. What does that mean exactly?
Corny? …Maybe!…But Let The Wood Speak
In an effort to leave as much character as is reasonable and gain maximum yield, only after the proper boards have been chosen to go together and they have been milled to fit can the final dimensions of the tabletop be determined. Ideally, when the best use of the lumber determines the sizing (within reason of course) as the final dimensions guide you rather than manufacturing presets it’s as if the wood speaks and the carpenter listens so as to create the best looking and most complimentary furniture from that lumber.
Making Sure Of The Details
Since we are endeavoring to create a piece of furniture you’ll love for a long time we really try to chose the best way to present the characteristics of the reclaimed wood so it shows well. Every effort is made to match the dimensions specified by the client with the best features of the lumber so the end product is the best it can be.
Reclaimed Wood Tables – Best Dimensions
Sometimes the proposed location determines the size. Where you have some breathing room you can be more flexible with the dimensions and base them more on preferred amount of place settings and comfortable spacing between those sitting at the table.
Keep in mind that making any table 48″ wide will require standing to pass food platters etc. We recommend going no wider than 44″. If you allow 24-30″ width for your guests to sit comfortably you will do well.(always aim for 30″ if possible). So depending on how you pack em’ in a 96-100″ long table will seat 8-10 people including the ends and a 120″ long table should accommodate 10-12.
We’ll be happy to go over all your concerns with you and come up with the best design for your seating requirements as well as the room.
